Western Trails Alliance

How It Works

Western Trails Alliance is a volunteer-run organization dedicated to creating high-quality mountain bike trails for communities and landowners. Our mission includes planning, designing, and supporting the construction of trails, as well as providing funding to mountain bike clubs for community-led projects.

Planning & Design:
Volunteers handle all planning and design using proven methods and detailed documentation to meet the needs of all stakeholders.

Funding:
Projects are funded through contributions from sponsors, the public, and government grants.

Construction & Labour:
Registered volunteers contribute their time and skills to help with trail construction. All volunteers are covered by volunteer workers’ insurance. We also collaborate with experienced trail construction contractors who provide specialized equipment, services, and expertise, often at or below cost.

Volunteer Benefits:

  • Lower costs make projects feasible that might otherwise be impossible due to funding limitations.

  • Participants gain a sense of ownership and contribute to community-building.

  • Feedback from riders and volunteers ensures trails meet current user expectations.

  • Volunteers often remain engaged beyond the initial project, helping with maintenance, fundraising, events, and other activities.
